METHOD & PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Get a result you can use.

Write for the canvas.

Use a short top or bottom caption and insert manual line breaks where needed. The text layout wraps and fits captions into their regions. Long captions require smaller type, so review legibility at the size where the image will actually appear rather than only at full resolution.

Keep text readable.

Choose text and outline colors that contrast with the photo. Adjust alignment, case and font deliberately. Check that the outline does not close up small letter shapes and that captions do not obscure the essential part of the image. The preview reflects the caption layout used for export.

Export and attribute appropriately.

The finished image uses the original image dimensions. PNG preserves the rendered pixels; JPG and WebP offer size/quality options. Use an image you have permission to edit and share. Captions and editing do not grant permission to reuse someone else’s image or misrepresent a person’s words.

Your source file remains unchanged. Check both captions and image edges in the preview before exporting. How we document our tools

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Create a readable captioned image without losing source dimensions.

Try this workflow

Start with
A 640 × 480 practice image with room above and below the subject.
Set up
Write both captions, adjust the font size and outline, then preview.
What to expect
Captions wrap and can shrink to stay inside the canvas. The output remains 640 × 480 unless the source has different dimensions.

Check before using the result

  • Check long lines and manual line breaks.
  • Inspect both blocks at the size viewers will see.

When the result needs work

Installed font rendering can differ between devices. A heavy outline helps readability but can obscure small letters. Use an image you may edit and share.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.
