METHOD & PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Get a result you can use.

Design for sixteen pixels.

A detailed photograph may look fine at 512 px and become unclear at 16 px. Start with a simple symbol and inspect the native-size previews. Fit logo preserves the whole image with padding; Fill square crops the image to cover the square. Insets can stop the symbol touching the edge.

Choose a background deliberately.

Transparent corners work well for many logos, but pale details can disappear against a light browser interface. Preview on light and dark surfaces. Rounded corners affect the artwork itself; each platform may also apply its own mask. The previews help you spot a clipped symbol before downloading.

Install the generated set.

The archive includes PNG sizes, a multi-size ICO, a web manifest and an installation guide. Copy the files to the paths used by your site and apply the provided head tags. Adjust manifest names and paths to your project. Browsers may cache an old icon, so check the deployed paths and refresh when testing.

A favicon set supplies image assets; it does not by itself make a website installable or satisfy all progressive web app requirements. How we document our tools

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Produce a consistent icon package for a website.

Try this workflow

Start with
A self-owned logo on a transparent canvas.
Set up
Choose Fit logo, add safe padding, inspect 16 px and 32 px previews.
What to expect
The complete ZIP includes PNG sizes, a multi-size ICO, a manifest and installation instructions. Composition settings apply to all sizes.

Check before using the result

  • Check the smallest previews first.
  • Update paths if your website lives in a subdirectory.

When the result needs work

Fine details that look good at 512 px may vanish at 16 px. Simplify the original logo instead of relying on sharpening to recover tiny shapes.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

A few useful answers.

More help

What sizes do I get?

A complete set of PNG favicons (16, 32, 48, 64, 180, 192, 256 and 512 px) plus a multi-size favicon.ico, packaged as a ZIP ready to drop into your site.

How do I use them?

Unzip into your site root and reference the ICO and the apple-touch / PNG icons in your HTML head. The ZIP includes the standard sizes browsers expect.

Are my images uploaded?

No. All favicon sizes are generated in your browser. Image files are not uploaded. Processing metadata may be recorded; see our privacy policy.
