Lossless compression

Lossless compression. Original quality.

No quality slider, no resizing. PNG and supported WebP files are optimized losslessly. JPG comments can be removed without re-encoding. If there is no smaller lossless result, we keep your original file.

Before you download
  • Inspect whether the original was kept.
  • Compare bytes and dimensions; a zero saving is a valid result.

METHOD & PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Get a result you can use.

When lossless is the right choice.

Use this workspace when pixel dimensions and image data must stay intact. It optimizes supported PNG and static WebP files, and can remove JPEG comments without decoding the image. JPEG EXIF and color profiles are retained. This is different from a compressor that lowers quality or reduces dimensions.

Why a result may stay the same size.

A well-optimized file may have little or no remaining savings. The tool compares output sizes and keeps your original when it is smaller. Animated images and WebP files with orientation or color metadata are retained rather than silently flattened or changed. Unchanged is a valid result, not an export failure.

For a strict upload limit.

A 200 KB upload requirement is a byte limit, not a width requirement. Lossless compression cannot promise that target. Use Compress to Size if you can accept a change in quality or dimensions. Inspect small text, edges and gradients after lossy compression, and compare the achieved file size with the form’s limit.

Example: a 1200 × 800 losslessly optimized PNG still has 1200 × 800 pixels. A smaller byte count does not mean smaller dimensions. How we document our tools

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Reduce storage without changing decoded image pixels.

Try this workflow

Start with
An already optimized PNG and a larger PNG of the same graphic.
Set up
Choose both files and review their individual results.
What to expect
Each output stays in its original format. A file that cannot be made smaller losslessly is kept unchanged; savings differ by file.

Check before using the result

  • Inspect whether the original was kept.
  • Compare bytes and dimensions; a zero saving is a valid result.

When the result needs work

A noisy photograph can be difficult to shrink losslessly. Use Compress to Size when a hard upload limit requires a quality or dimension tradeoff.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

More help

How do I compress an image?

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP files. The tool tries lossless optimization in your browser and keeps the original if it is already smaller. Download individually or as a ZIP. No quality slider or resizing is used.

Will compression reduce my image quality?

No. PNG optimization and supported static WebP optimization are lossless. JPEG comments can be removed without decoding or changing the image data; EXIF and color profiles are retained. Animated images and WebP files with color or orientation metadata are kept unchanged. If no smaller lossless result is possible, your original is kept.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Optimization runs in a background worker on your device. Your image files are not uploaded for processing.

Is there a file size or batch limit?

You can compress files up to 50MB each and choose up to 20 images with a combined size of 150 MB. Batch results download together as a single ZIP file.
