A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Understand the distribution of decoded image tones.

Try this workflow

Start with
A photograph or the synthetic practice image.
Set up
Compare Brightness, Red, Green and Blue, then switch the scale.
What to expect
The chart covers intensity 0–255. The CSV contains all 256 alpha-weighted bins for each channel, without sampling.

Check before using the result

  • Inspect the RGB channels as well as brightness.
  • Read endpoint counts in context; black and white can be intentional.

When the result needs work

Transparent pixels are excluded and partial alpha is weighted. A fully transparent image has no visible distribution. This is 8-bit browser-decoded analysis, not a RAW exposure meter.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

More help

What does this histogram measure?

It counts all pixels in the browser-decoded 8-bit sRGB image. Brightness uses a weighted estimate of gamma-encoded RGB, not linear luminance or camera RAW exposure. Each RGB channel has its own 256-bin histogram.

Do endpoint peaks mean my photo is overexposed?

Not necessarily. Intentional black, white, text and backgrounds can create endpoint peaks. The analyzer reports values at 0 and 255 without claiming to recover detail or diagnose exposure. Inspect the image and RGB channels together.

How is transparency handled?

Fully transparent pixels are ignored. Partly transparent pixels contribute their alpha proportion, so hidden RGB values do not distort the visible distribution. Percentages use that effective alpha weight.

Can I export the analysis?

Download all 256 bins for brightness, red, green and blue as CSV, or save the current chart as SVG. Files stay on your device. Use JPG, PNG or WebP up to 50 MB, 8192 pixels per side and 32 megapixels. Animated images use a decoded still frame.
