A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Find pixel differences between two matching canvases.

Try this workflow

Start with
Two 640 × 480 practice images with a changed circle.
Set up
Set tolerance to zero, compare the wipe, then Compare pixels.
What to expect
The difference map marks corresponding pixels that differ after alpha is accounted for. Increase tolerance to ignore small color changes.

Check before using the result

  • Confirm the same dimensions and alignment.
  • Check the changed count and map together.

When the result needs work

Different sizes must be resized first. This tool does not align displaced subjects or recognize semantic changes; exact file equality is a different check.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

More help

Do the images need the same dimensions?

Yes. This tool compares corresponding pixels and does not align or resize images automatically. Use Resize first if the dimensions differ.

What does the changed-pixel percentage mean?

A pixel counts as changed when its visible color over white or its opacity differs by more than the tolerance on a 0–255 scale. The calculation uses the full image resolution. Orange marks changed pixels; pale pixels are within the tolerance.

Does this find semantic changes?

No. This is a pixel comparison. Compression noise, small shifts and color changes can affect many pixels. The result does not judge whether two pictures show the same subject.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Image files and results stay in your browser. This workspace does not send filenames or editing results to our server, and you do not need an account.

Which images can I open?

Use JPG, PNG or WebP up to 50 MB per file, 8,192 pixels per side and 32 megapixels. Animated images are treated as a still frame. Convert HEIC with our HEIC to JPG tool first.
