PNG export settings

PNG preserves decoded pixels and transparency. Conversion does not create transparency or restore lost detail. Animated inputs export as a still frame.

METHOD & PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Get a result you can use.

Choose the format for the job.

PNG is useful for transparent graphics and sharp interface elements. JPG is useful for photographs when a solid background is acceptable. WebP supports both transparency and efficient image encoding, but the receiving application must support it. Conversion alone does not guarantee a smaller file.

Check transparency and quality.

JPG cannot preserve transparent pixels; choose the background color that fills them. Set JPG or WebP quality, apply changes, and use Inspect for a fitted, full-size or side-by-side comparison. The row shows source and output sizes. JPG and this WebP encoder can alter pixels even at maximum quality. Converting an already compressed JPG into PNG cannot restore missing detail or make a painted background transparent.

Use the dedicated input converter.

This workspace handles JPG, PNG and WebP. Use HEIC to JPG for a HEIC photo, or SVG to PNG for a static vector graphic. For a batch, check every result before downloading the archive. Save the original when future editing or transparency matters.

Changing a file extension is not conversion. The exported file must contain the image encoding expected by its extension. How we document our tools

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Create a correctly encoded file accepted by the receiving application.

Try this workflow

Start with
A PNG containing transparent corners.
Set up
Choose JPG and a black background, then apply export settings.
What to expect
The output is an actual JPG with opaque black corners. A PNG output preserves decoded alpha; converting a painted checkerboard does not create transparency.

Check before using the result

  • Inspect the converted result.
  • Check the output extension and actual file size.
  • Apply settings after changing quality or background.

When the result needs work

Quality at 100% is still not a guarantee of lossless JPG or WebP output. Keep PNG for transparent graphics and choose the format required by your destination.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

More help

How do I convert an image to another format?

Drop your images in, pick the target format (or use a direct converter page like PNG to JPG), and download. Batches can be downloaded together as a ZIP.

Is the conversion lossless?

PNG encoding is lossless, but converting a JPG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost in the JPG. JPG and WebP output can use lossy encoding. Check transparency and preview the result before downloading.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
