A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Make a compatible still JPG from an iPhone HEIC photo.

Try this workflow

Start with
A genuine .heic or .heif photo from your device.
Set up
Select the file and wait for its individual conversion result.
What to expect
The supported decoder produces a JPG; a multi-image HEIC uses the first decoded image. Unsupported variants show an error.

Check before using the result

  • Inspect orientation and colors.
  • Keep the HEIC original for future editing.

When the result needs work

Changing the filename extension is not conversion. HDR appearance, auxiliary data and camera metadata may not carry over. An unsupported file may need export from the app that created it.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

A few useful answers.

More help

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the high-efficiency image format iPhones use by default. It saves space but many apps and Windows can't open it — so converting to JPG makes photos universally compatible.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

Drop your .heic files in and they're decoded and converted to JPG in your browser. Download them individually or as a ZIP.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The HEIC decoder runs locally in your browser (loaded on demand the first time). Your photos never leave your device.

Why does the first conversion take a moment?

The HEIC decoder is a small module loaded only when you first use this tool, so it never slows down the rest of the site. After it loads, conversions are fast.
