    METHOD & PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Get a result you can use.

Use pixels to set the canvas.

Enter the width or height your destination requires. With the aspect ratio locked, the other side follows the original proportions. For a 2400 × 1600 photo, choosing a width of 1200 gives a height of 800. Unlocking the ratio can stretch the subject, so use it only when that distortion is intended.

    Resize or crop?

Resizing changes pixel dimensions. Cropping removes part of the frame. If a wide image must become square, crop it or place it on a square social canvas rather than stretching it. A print request also needs physical dimensions and PPI; the print calculator helps translate those requirements into pixels.

    Inspect the downloaded result.

Reducing dimensions discards detail. Enlarging with an ordinary resizer interpolates pixels and does not reveal information missing from the source. Check text and fine edges at the output’s actual size. For batches, the same target settings are applied to every image, so review images with different proportions.

Keep your full-size original separately. A resized image is a new export and does not modify the file on your device. How we document our tools

    A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Fit an upload dimension requirement without stretching a photograph.

    Try this workflow

    Start with
    A 1200 × 800 landscape image.
    Set up
Set width to 600 px, leave height blank, keep proportions locked.
    What to expect
The result is 600 × 400 px. With enlargement disabled, a source smaller than the requested box keeps its dimensions.

    Check before using the result

    • Check both dimensions in the result row.
    • Apply changed settings before downloading.
    • Use 100% preview to check text and fine edges.

    When the result needs work

Entering both sides with proportions locked defines a bounding box. Unlocking permits distortion. Percentage mode scales each image from its own source dimensions.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

    GOOD TO KNOW

    A few useful answers.

    More help

How do I resize an image?

Drop your images in, type a target width and/or height (or pick a preset), and download. Leave aspect ratio locked and set just one dimension to scale proportionally.

Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?

Yes by default — set one dimension and the other is calculated to preserve proportions. Unlock the ratio to stretch to exact width and height.

    Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser via the Canvas API. Image files are not uploaded. Processing metadata may be recorded; see our privacy policy.

Can I resize many images at once?

Yes. Drop in a batch, resize them all to the same target, and download them together as a ZIP.
