Before you download
  • Inspect edges, text and transparency at 100%.
  • Read the byte comparison; encoding is lossy even at quality 100.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Know what a useful result looks like.

Compare genuine AVIF encoding with the source before choosing an export.

Try this workflow

Start with
640 × 480 synthetic practice PNG
Set up
AVIF, quality 75, Balanced speed
What to expect
A genuine AVIF at 640 × 480 with measured bytes and a decoded quality preview.

Examples illustrate specific inputs and settings. Actual output size and appearance depend on your file and browser. Practice images are synthetic; they do not contain personal data.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

More help

Is this genuine AVIF encoding?

Yes. A local WebAssembly AVIF codec encodes the pixels; the tool does not rename another format. It also decodes AVIF locally to generate a compatible PNG preview.

Can AVIF be larger than my original?

Yes. Already optimized files, graphics and small images can grow. The tool shows actual measured bytes and does not describe a larger output as a saving. Your original stays unchanged.

Does 100 quality guarantee identical pixels?

No. This AVIF mode uses lossy encoding with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and full-quality alpha. Quality is an encoder setting. Use PNG to preserve the decoded pixels; converting an already lossy image to PNG cannot recover lost detail.

What are the limits?

Use static JPG, PNG or WebP up to eight megapixels, 8192 pixels per side and 50 MB, or AVIF up to 20 MB. Encoding runs in a cancellable worker with a 90-second limit. Large images and slower speed settings take longer.
